  • NDA may bag 236 Seats, UPA 92 Survey: The Narendra Modi-led NDA could be within touching distance of power, winning 236 of the 543 seats in the Lok Sabha, leaving it just 36 seats short of the majority mark, according to an opinion poll done for TV channel. The BJP alone, the poll projected, would win 217 seats, comfortably the party’s highest tally ever.
  • Sikh awarded for volunteer services in Singapore: An 82 year old Sikh has been honoured for his outstanding volunteer service in Singapore. Surjan Singh received the ministry of social and family development volunteers Awards for helping some 60 boys, mostly involved in petty crimes such as theft. Singh, a retired teacher, had on of the longest serving volunteer probation career. He served for 42 years.
  • BCCI to review Team India’s performance: The BCCI is likely to summon under-fire captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni coach Duncan Fletcher for a meeting to take stock of the Indian cricket team’s disastrous overseas record in the last three years. Top BCCI sources said that the top brass wants to review the performance of the team after their ignominious tour of New Zealand where they lost both the Test and ODI series.
  • LPG dealers to down shutters from February 25, 2014: Cooking gas distributors across the country have threatened to stop delivering refills indefinitely from February 25 to press for more relaxed marketing discipline guidelines, a move oil company executive said was aimed at derailing efforts to improve consumer service and end black-marketing of subsidised cylinders.
  • China calls US envoy over Obama-Dalai Meet: China on Saturday summoned the  US charge d’affaires in Beijing and lodged a strong diplomatic protest after American President Barack Obama met the Dalai Lama at the White House despite warnings from Beijing that the meeting would damage ties.
  • India crash out of U-19 World Cup: Defending champions India crashed out of the Under-19 World Cup Cricket tournament after suffering a three-wicket defeat at the hands of a disciplined England side in the quarterfinals on Saturday.

                                          • Rafael Nadal Retains top at ATP Ranking list followed by Serbia’s Novak Djokavic and Switzerland’s Statislas Wawrinka.
                                          • Virat Kohli Ranked 4th in ICC T20 Rankings followed by Suresh Raina at 5th place and Yuvaj Singh at 6th place.
                                          • National Mission on Libraries was launched by Pranab Mukherjee, Union Ministry of Culture. Main features of this mission are Capacity building, Quantitative and Qualitative Survey of Libraries, Setting up to NML model libraries, Creation of National Virtual Library of India. Major component schemes of the National Mission on Libraries are creation of a National Virtual Library of India (NVLI).
                                          • Jan Lokpal Bill cleared by Delhi Cabinet. This bill provides for covering all public servants from Chief Minister to Group D Employees and seeks life term as maximum punishment for those found guilty of corruption.
                                          • BCIC (Bangalore Chamber of Industry and Commerce) has requested Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah for timeline for revision of monthly or quarterly returns under the Karnataka VAT Act.
                                          • NABARD Sanctioned Rs.1533.90 crores for creation of infrastructure such as construction of ware houses and irrigation in Gujarat. As a part of this Rs.1407 crores were allotted towards the Kutch Branch Canal System under RIDF XIX (Rural Infrastructure Development Fund XIX).

                                          • 7th Ranji Trophy to Karnataka, 7th Ranji Trophy won by Karnataka by defeating Maharashtra by 7 Wickets. Man of the Match Award achieved by Rahul, Young Opener. He got this title for his century in the first innings. Karnataka team achieved Rs.2crores while Maharashtra Team achieved Rs.1 crore.
                                          • India Plans for NASA Air craft for Cyclone Prediction, In the last year, eastern coast was affected by cyclone for 5 times. To study wind patterns at high altitude for better prediction of such calamities, India is planning to Procure NASA aircraft equipped with a lab. Shailesh Nayak, Ministry of Earth Sciences Secretary stated that they were procuring McDonnell Douglas DC – 8 aircraft from NASA. This would happen between 2015-16.
                                          • Hindutva Judgement is reopening by Seven Judge Bench, Hindutva Judgement is reopening by Seven Judge Bench. Supreme Court has taken the decision for an authoritative pronouncement on electrol law categorising misuse of religion for electoral gains as Corrupt Practices.  In 1995, Supreme Court with 3 bench judge  had held that Hindtva is a way of the people in the sub- Continent and is a state of mind.
                                          • 14th Annual Greentech Environment 2013 Award achieved by NMPT, 14th Annual Greentech Environment 2013 Award achieved by NMPT. It has attained this award for environment management. Greentech Foundation has presented this award to NMPT.
                                          • An Amendment in the payment of Bonus Act, In the ceiling of bonus paid to the employees of factories and other establishments is on the card as a proposal in this regard will be upgraded. This will implement from next month. At present workers were not drawing not more than Rs.10000 per Month. Now as per this bonus upgradition they will receive bonus of Rs.3500 along with salary. This will benefit 3 crore employees.
                                          • Centre hikes DA for 2nd time by 10%, For the 2nd time DA will increase by 10% to 100 %. This will benefit 30 lakh Pensioners and 50 lakh employees. First hike was announced in last year September by 10% to 90%. Extra DA will be calculated only when the revised all India Consumer Price Index for Industrial Workers ( CPI IW) for December is released on 28th February 2014.
